Schoelcher’s house offers an opportunity to discover or remember the achievements of Martin Schelcher-Schoelcher (native of Fessenheim) and his son Victor Schoelcher. The latter was a former Under-Secretary of the colonies’ provisional government which voted to abolish slavery on 27th April 1848.
Eclectic humanist, advocate of the abolition of the death penalty, defender of women’s and children’s rights, he rests in peace with his father in the Pantheon in Paris
This museum also traces the history of the Hardt and Marc Schloelcher (father), a famous 15th century Parisian porcelain manufacturer. The museum’s setting, a typical small Hardt farm, enhances the charm of this site.
